What size shoe is needed?                       Click here for sock sizes.

Getting a comfortable fit is a key part of being satisfied with a shoe purchase.

The same nominal sizes in different brands and styles may not all fit the same foot. Also US and European sizes use different scales entirely, and conversion tables are only approximate.

Approximate US Sizes

At Footbeats, we use our two decades of experience in fitting children’s shoes to make size selection as simple and accurate as possible. Here is our two step process:

·        Measure the length of both feet. in inches. If the left and right feet are different sizes, use the measurements of the larger foot.

·        Use the charts below to translate the measurement in inches to a US size.

Approximate length of foot in inches

If your inch measurement falls between chart entries use the next largest size.

Sometimes you will see a sizing recommendation associated with a particular shoe, along with that shoe’s description. You should also follow these additional recommendations.

How to measure the length of each foot

1.    Place a piece of paper on a hard floor, not carpet or a rug.

2.    Ask you child to stand with one foot on the paper and one on the floor. (This is to make sure the child doesn’t slip.)

3.    Draw a mark on the paper corresponding to at the rearmost extremity of the heel.

4.    Do the same for the most forward toe. (Usually either the big toe or second toe, depending on the child.)

5.    Measure the distance between the two marks.

6.    Repeat steps 1 though 5 for the other foot.

7.    Often one foot is larger than the other: Use the larger foot for sizing purposes.
